Most moving-day problems are predictable: a lorry that is too small, a lift that is out of service, a gate the truck cannot get through, furniture that will not fit through a door, or boxes stacked in a hallway with no idea what is inside. We plan around those before the day, which is why the survey comes first.
Cleantique handles house moves and office relocations within Nairobi and surrounding areas, with packing, protection, loading, transport, offloading and reassembly coordinated as one job.
What we move
- Home moving: bedsitters, studios, apartments, maisonettes and family houses.
- Office relocation: desks, chairs, filing cabinets, IT equipment, files and stock, planned around your reopening.
- Single heavy or awkward items: a piano, a safe, a gym rig or a generator, by arrangement.
- Storage transfers: moving goods into or out of storage, loaded and stacked so you can reach things later.
Who our moving service is for
- Tenants and homeowners moving between neighbourhoods, estates or towns.
- Families relocating for work or school.
- Expatriates arriving in or leaving Nairobi who need a local move.
- Offices, clinics, NGOs and small businesses moving premises.
- Landlords and property managers clearing or furnishing units.
How the moving process works
- Survey. We look at what you have, in person or by video call, and check access, parking, stairs and lifts at both ends.
- Quote and date. You get a written price and a confirmed date. If a larger vehicle or crew is needed, that is settled now, not at your gate.
- Packing materials. If you are packing yourself, boxes, tape and labels can be delivered beforehand.
- Moving day. We wrap and protect furniture, dismantle what needs dismantling, pack what you asked us to pack and label everything by destination room.
- Offload and set up. Boxes go to the right rooms, furniture is placed and reassembled. You should be able to sleep there that night.

Planning your move
Most of the stress of moving comes in the last two days, when packing that was left until later meets a fixed handover date. A simple plan helps:
- Two weeks before: book the move, tell building management, book the lift if there is one, and arrange cleaning.
- One week before: pack anything you will not need, label boxes by room, sort out what you are not taking.
- The day before: pack an essentials bag, defrost the fridge, set aside documents and valuables, confirm parking at both ends.
Our house moving checklist for Nairobi has a full week-by-week plan.
Moving day: what to expect
The crew arrives at the agreed time, walks through the property with you and confirms what is going, what is staying and anything fragile. Furniture is wrapped before it leaves the room. Boxes and furniture are loaded heaviest first, secured and protected. At the new property, the crew places items in the rooms marked on the labels and reassembles furniture that was taken apart. Before they leave, check that everything has arrived.
Safety and handling
- Heavy items are carried with the right number of people and equipment.
- Furniture is wrapped and corners are protected in narrow staircases and lifts.
- Floors and door frames at the new property can be protected on request.
- Fragile items are packed with enough padding and boxes are not overfilled.
- Valuables, documents and medication travel with you, not in the lorry.
What affects the cost of moving
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Volume of belongings | Determines the vehicle size, crew size and time |
| Distance | Longer moves take more time and fuel |
| Access | Stairs, lifts, long walks from parking and estate rules add time |
| Packing | Doing it yourself or having the crew pack everything |
| Dismantling | Beds, wardrobes and office furniture add time at both ends |
| Special items | Pianos, safes and large appliances need extra people or equipment |
| Date and time | Month end, weekends and out-of-hours office moves are in higher demand |

Common moving mistakes
- Accepting a price over the phone without anyone seeing your belongings.
- Leaving packing until the night before.
- Forgetting to book the lift or tell the askari and building management.
- Packing documents and valuables in the lorry.
- Not defrosting the fridge.
Why use professional movers
A professional moving team brings the right number of people, the right vehicle, protective materials and experience of stairs, lifts and tight Nairobi gates. You get a firm plan instead of hiring a pickup and casual labour on the day and hoping for the best.
